Trump never ran on that platform. He never passed himself off as a "Bible Thumper" as perhaps George W Bush did. Trump was never a Tea Party guy either. Trump ran on a "America First" platform which was contrary to the leadership & beliefs of McCain, McConnell and soon to be former Speaker Ryan which in turn deeply upset the rank & file GOP/Globalist establishment.
You cannot paint Trump as just like the rest of the regular establishment GOP types or evangelicals. That doesn't work. Like it or not, Trump is his own new brand of GOP.
Dude, he spoke at many "Christian" colleges, including at Liberty University for his infamous "Two Corinthians" comment, and he has constantly called himself a Christian and panders to the Christian Right. Good grief man, do you ever read anything? "And we're bringing back 'Merry Christmas'". He said that a million times during the campaign. Who was that for? Wasn't for the atheists and Muslims here.
Go to YouTube, you can see all kinds of videos of Trump saying things like "We will defend our Christian heritage", and arguing with the Pope about the fact that he IS a Christian, and on and on.
BUT, once again you are missing the point (really, try harder to understand things told to you). It is the Christian Right who are hypocrites for supporting Trump...doesn't matter if he calls himself a Christian or not (he does). They should look at his behavior and not his labels of Republican and Christian and decide if they should support him. No Christian who REALLY espouses Christian values would.
I agree that Trump is a new brand of GOP...HUGE a$$hole, liar, and criminal. The old GOP was way more respectable.
