So for other college sports, like football + basketball, the networks have deals with conferences that then kick back money to individual schools when rights are bought to their games. How does this work with Flotrack? They are making their money largely off of high school/college runners.
Also what if a runner in a race Flotrack has the 'rights' to does not want to be filmed. Or does a runner in a Flotrack race have any sort of claim to the profits they are making off of them. I, for example, ran the Portland Track Festival last year. Flotrack filmed it. Did I sign something during registration saying that was cool? Does that even have to happen? I am not a subscriber. I would have had to pay $20 to see myself run but they are making money off of my running. Can someone help break this down for me?
My only gripe with Flotrack is that I just don't think they're worth the money for me. A basic Comcast package with 200 channels is around $50/month. Flotrack is $20/month and they do not have the content I seek. I want to watch Boston/NYC/Chicago, Olympics/World Champs, Diamond League races. High school/college races are not my thing. I agree with I think Rojo's post where he said this should be their role but they try to extend to some bigger events to get a small bump in subscriptions. It is frustrating just in the way Flotrack handles things. I had this race on my radar when I read an LRC article saying there would be a free stream and KB was going for the WR. I saw this morning that Flotrack bought the rights and then they cut the YouTube stream 45:00 in.
