What phase of training would you add tempo runs in a 5k-10k training plan?
Currently have tempos efforts in my base phase but will eventually fizzle out once race specific paces become the main focus. My current thinking is that you need that solid base to support the hard intensity runs that will follow. However, will all those endurance/stamina adaptions relapse during the race specific phase and therefore promote a decrease in endurance and stamina?
i know Daniels doesn't even start tempo efforts until the last phase of training. I'm just struggling to figure out why. I know there are so many different philosophies on training but I just want to be more inform on the pro and cons of different training.
What does everyone else think?
