I know that many programs have completely eliminated static stretching for dynamic running drills and active stretching.
*Static stretching is an individual thing that many should continue doing because of prior workout patterns and because of lack of flexibility.
*There are studies that show it can weaken muscles, however I think if it is done on a limited basis after running it can provide for a temporary lengthening of the musculature. This can improve performance and reduce injuries.
*I agree that it probably should not be done before running or racing.
*Does anyone use this procedure anymore? Would you use it with a team if you were coaching. I'm old and a former coach. I still think it has relevance.
*Is anyone of the opinion that static stretching is worthless? I would like to hear your reasons for believing this.
