Let's hope that if Bekele runs say, 2:02:40 that Kipchoge will forget this silly nonsense about sub-2.
DNF for Kenenisa. He cannot set the world record at this point. He came very close, but this won't end well.
Good article, by the way. The weather really will make KB pay if he goes out in 61 flat. Surely Renato Canova knows this.
We break down the rest of the stacked men's field here:

It was 53 degrees when he set the 10,000m WR, fwiw.

interesting that Tariku is running the race after almost running the entire Fukuoka marathon.
Maybe a pacemaker for his brother like when he set the 10,000m record

Only for the mentally weak.

Mental toughness is not at play here. Why not break the record on an uphill course to demonstrate mental toughness? We already know KB is mentally tough. Mental toughness is a necessary but not sufficient condition to break the record.

Most of what you just said has nothing to do with what I said. Also, you are contradicting yourself. You said the weather will make him pay. Now you are saying mental toughness is not at play here. Make up your mind. Getting affected by the weather (temperature) is mental.

What??? That's the most asinine thing I've ever heard. Are you saying a mentally tough runner can just put hot temps out of their mind and run as normal?
to run 2 hours, it is going to take a half dozen guys like the bekele of 10 years ago to be in the same race, in perfect conditions, and have 4 of them pace up to 30km.
we are talking about six guys that can do 10k in 2600 to 2620.
now, you have only one older bekele and a half dozen guys that can run 203 flat.
which means in perfect conditions and perfect pacing, a 202 low is possible.
the alternative is to find a way to get ingest fuel more efficiently during the race, that being the case, anyone who can run 57 flat for the half would be a candidate for 2 hours.

Alberto Salazar could.

KB had no worries, at a half-marathon, letting the Mobot catch up to him, look back at him and then sprint away. He is mentally a lot tougher than Farah.
Sadly, there are low IQ people posting nonsense about mental toughness and weather. If you are mentally tough, it does not mean you will run your personal bests in less than ideal weather. This is blatantly obvious. KB dropped out of world cross country in his prime when it was in the 90s and humid. This does not mean he was not mentally tough. We are discussing a possible world record here and the weather is an obvious factor even for the legends of the sport.
I sure hope that either bekele or Hermens reads this thread for some top notch advice. You guys are all a bunch of know-it-all jokers.

Wanjiru and Salazar did.

Sadly, there are low IQ people here accusing others of having low IQ. For example, Bekele did not drop out of world cross country because it was 90s and humid. He dropped out because he miscounted laps and had a cramp.
How is the weather (temperature) an obvious factor? You are using the word obvious without backing it up with anything. Just because you like an idea does not mean it is blatantly obviously correct.

Canova is not an idiot. The race starts at 6:30, a half hour before sunrise. Expected temp is 64. No way that will be a problem.

Fools who think the high temperature for the day is what KB will run through are confused. They are hobbyjoggers who know no better than they had to run through the heat after noontime—so slow—and so must KB.
