Did it ever occur to you that the reason he fell at the end of the race was because his legs were tired with exhaustion and therefore less capable of keeping his body balanced? Did it ever occur to you that steeplechase requires a lot of balance endurance? Did it ever occur to any of you that asking this question is similar to asking "if so and so wasn't tired and fading, what could they have run such and such race in"?
I mean, do you even run brah? Cause you fake. If you was real, dawg, you'd have had injuries and been doing balance exercises. If you'd been doing yo balance exercises, you'd know it's serious bidness and it git depleted jus like ya strength n speed.
I'm one of Jager's biggest fans, and really wish he could have run 7:57, but he didn't trip over that last barrier. His foot never clips it. He collapses from exhaustion (rightly so) after his lead leg hits the track.
A great race, and indicative of future potential. That day he may have been prepared to run 7:59, but he went out too hard and paid the price.

The question posed was hypothetical. Calm down clown.
7:57.49
7:58-low.
He doesn't break 7:58 as he was tiring and the eventual winner closed very hard, winning in 7:58-high.
All I can say is, I had never sworn while watching a sporting event until that race. O.M.G. I was so disappointed for him when he fell. So close but so far.
If he hadn't fallen, he would not have fallen. We will never know what time he would have run. He did not trip over the barrier, although it was a failure to regain rhythm post-barrier that caused the fall. It happened for the same reason someone just slows down precipitously--he was exhausted. The fall was just a stunning surprise because he was so close--so damn close.
