If you do things like deliver pizza or drive a cab in many places you're paid in cash each day.
bad idea to take an under the table job. What if the employer doesn't feel like paying you one day? There is no paperwork saying he has to and there might not even be a timeclock proving you were there.
Much less common now than in the past.
Happened a lot in retail cash businesses. Now with the credit card there is very little cash gravy for owners to skim.
Yes I have worked full time at restaurants in a totally off the books job.
Hurt like hell to go back to reporting the income, tips and paying taxes. In todays money (CPI calc) I went from talking home 2400 a week to 1100 a week with the same 1900 a month rent&utilities overhead.
Worked in many places where you were required to underreport your tips to the IRS because the owners were grossly under reporting the actual sales income. Actually work one joint that had two cash registers and only reported the sales from one.
Yes I knew it was illegal and I wasn't covered by workcomp, SSI or unemployment insurance.

Technically, that is a correct answer. Independent contractor and maybe it was UNDER the table.
