Why would an athlete want to burn more oxygen faster? That's not efficient. Elites use less energy.
Actovegin is tiring all those athletes out when they could be holding their breath and using their springy feet instead.
So why are they using it then?

They are/were using a heck of lot more than just actovegin...
I guess if the magic factor is unidentified, then it can't be tested for directly. However, isn't this kind of situation for which the biological passport was set up? If the magic factor is actually beneficial, shouldn't its effects show up? Or is it beneficial in a way that lies outside the test parameters of the passport?

See "It seems to be a mess of protein fragments, intermediaries of steroid hormones, amino acids, sugars, electrolytes, and other organic compounds. " You can't catch testo dopers with the blood passport either.
Note also that the mysterious Healing Hans uses undisclosed substances on top of those found in Actovegin, and that he doesn't even tell the athletes what he is using. He has no interest in patenting those substances (e.g., to get richer) or just publishing his findings (e.g., to become more famous). Conclude from that what you wish.
Nonsense. Just eat meat and you get a mess of protein and steroid fragments yada yada.
Injected directly into the site of a muscle tear my help healing, but it is likely BS.

Because they "believe" it gives them springier feet.
