Why the hate for millennials?

This crap happens with all generations. Ask your grandparents about it. Their music was hated by their parents and grandparents. At the time they were probably thought to be lazy and entitled as well. Then they turn right around and do the same thing.

This. All generations feel the need to hate on their successor. It's proven through human history. As to why, who knows. Maybe one generation reaches a certain age, realises they haven't lived as they dreamed and see the next generation as an easy target.

It's a constant in human evolution and will continue to be. 'Millennials' are no better or worse than any other generation. Different times breed a certain culture gap that previous generations will never fully understand. The speed of technological advances in last 30 years has probably widened that even more.

Millennials tend to lean to the left politically.

Actually part of the problem is that the older generations mislabel Gen Zers as millennials when theyre not. Millennials are 1980-1995. Gen Z is after.

This sums it up. In the past, grumpy old men didn't have the internet, so the whining was confined "kids these days" stories at family gatherings. But the same sentiment has been present throughout history.

I am a Millennial-hating Millennial. Boomers weren't perfect, but we took all their flaws and turned them into complete deformities. I am optimistic that following generations will be better than Millennials, because there's no other direction to go.

I see a lot of hate for millenials from older generations.

Yeah, it's stupid. You really can't stereotype any generation much, particularly when that generation spans almost 20 years worth of births.

The top end 'millenials' right now are 32-34. They didn't grow up with cell phones. They didn't really grow up with computers (crapintoshes and number crunchers maybe and regular Nintendo) or Facebook or any other crap. Yet, they are lumped in with current 18 year olds, who lived a completely different time.

But yeah, "blaming" millenials is like blaming "the blacks" or "the jews" or "the whites" or The Man or whoever the hell else you want to scapegoat for your life's problems, or the country's. Life didn't turn out the way you wanted, you're scared, you're stressed, you're angry, so you got to point the finger at ANYONE but yourself for your troubles. Millenials are an easy target.

Common talking points:

1. Look at the narcissism, Instagram, food photos, Facebook, navel-gazing, and self-obsessive nature of Millenials! Oh me oh my!

Counterpoint: Uh, Boomers and Gen Xers are also on Facebook taking photos of their food. Pot, meet Kettle. The Age of Narcissism was brought on by marketing and Facebook, not Millenials. Aka the "iphone" or "me-phone" or most marketing that is shrouded in "you're so special and unique and wonderful! Buy this product to express yourself! Cool! You're worth it, treat yourself girl!"

2. Related: Pansy Millenials! When they were kids, everyone got a trophy! The losers and last place got a trophy!

Counterpoint: This actually never happened. Anywhere. Period. Seriously. Boomers repeat it ad nauseum, but I went to a public school of 3,000 people, and religious schools, and it never happened. You might get a participation ribbon for running a 5k. Guess what, you still do in adult races. Running is notable in a population of lard-asses. But everyone "lost" in school. We played dodgeball and basketball and football and wrestling and you knew D$%@ well who lost. Kids also "lost" in terms of grades, girls, social life, getting beat up, etc. In some cases dodging bullets as they ripped through the air. If it did happen in a school or two, well, it was the Boomers who implemented it.

3. Social Justice warriors are annoying.

True, but most millenials agree with that. We don't equate all Baby Boomers with the Ku Klux Klan, do we?

Generational blaming = it's everyone's fault but mine. And I never see anyone "blame their own generation" - funny coincidence, don't you think?

I am a baby boomer and both my sons are millenials. I really like the millenial generation; I relate to their values. I couldn't relate to the Gen X'ers, I found them too much into money and status, but that's a generalization because they are not all like that.

What about all those boomers who defaulted on their mortgages, resulting in the worst financial crises since the great depression and a stimulus plan that I will have to pay for? I'm not proud of any of them.

Good thing millennials stepped in to vote in an intellectual as president, ignoring the whistles from baby boomers that he hates American and baby Jesus.

^Crashes economy so that hard working college grads can't find meaningful employment. Complains that young people aren't doing anything meaningful.

So buying a house and having kids are the main goals of life? Wow I've been doing it all wrong!I thought it was living life on your own terms - being happy - having empathy - finding meaningful employment where you are engaged and giving but to society rather than a corporate drone job where you are making money but only helping corporations destroy the world.
