Sophomore in high school. Freshman pr's were 18:17 in the 3 mile in cross country, 2:10 in the 800, 4:45 in the 1600, and 10:46 in the 3200. I know my cross country and 3200 times are slower than what they should be but that's not why I'm here. In cross country this year, I ran a full 5k in 17:35. That was my pr. I'm not good at much of anything over a mile. Anyways, I was running on my treadmill a lot after cross country. 30-40 mpw (during the xc season I averaged only like 30 mpw and even less in track and xc as a freshman.) The reason I was using a treadmill was because of how cold, snowy, and icy it was where I live. Running outside was miserable. When running on the treadmill, I got tired way easier than when I run outside. I struggled to run 4 miles on a treadmill some days. It got hot and painful and everything was just bad. I tested my treadmill to find out if it was going faster than it said it was. It was going about .7 mph faster. After that, I lowered the speed .7 mph than what I would normally go for an easy run. Even that hurt though. It didn't feel like a normal easy run. It felt miserable. That was my aerobic conditioning (with quite a few outside runs too when I could.) Last week, my first indoor meet came. I ran the two mile on a 321m track and thought I could run 10:20 judging on how slow my time last year was and how I'd been putting in quite a bit more mileage. I understand that was fast but I prepared for that by going 5:20 the first mile instead of 5:10. That way I wouldn't burn out. I hit all my splits pretty evenly and cross one mile in 5:24. Then everything got bad and I finished in 11:27. Figured it was just a bad race. I was abnormally sore from it too so I decided that was probably because running on a treadmill uses different muscles than normal running on the ground. This last week, I've run less mileage because practice started and we have done a bit of speed work. I ran 20.5 miles this week (including one race day and two days where I didn't run.) Yesterday, I ran another meet and ran the 1600 and 800. In the 1600 I wanted to be close to my pr. At least sub-4:50 (which a kid on my team with a similar mile pr to me ran.) I finished in 5:03... I have a team mate who hasn't run at all since cross country ended. All he's done is basketball conditioning and he ran 5:04 at the meet where I ran 11:27. I decided that considering my slow times, I would be happy with anything under 2:15 in the 800. I ran 2:15 exactly. Splits weren't great, 31, 34, 35, 35. Went out fast so I think I could've run 2:12 if I'd been more conservative. Anyways, why are my times so slow right now??? I've been training pretty well and keeping up with people in workouts who normally run similar times to me but now, my race times are just crap. Does running on a treadmill not help or something???
