There is definitely a premium for kids that went to elite undergrad institutions. I majored in finance and took a number of boot camp type classes for an internship and job I got right after college working for a big bank.
There were multiple kids from ivy leagues and one kid from Princeton was in my group. He was an English major and honestly he was much smarter / better than anything I did. I went to an OK state school with nearly flawless GPA which was much cheaper but he was lured away to an even higher paying job.
The cost of education is really tough and really really vexing - it honestly boils down to the point of higher education in the first place.
I am not going to pick any school because many are great but if you are in between #30 - #60 and it costs $70K+ to go there is it really worth it? I would still in this day and age say yes but you need some plan after. Even if you want to try and make it in Hollywood or write poetry in Brooklyn get ready to work really hard with a second job to make ends meet and pay off your loans.
