Do you think London is a Fall back plan for him if he has to drop in the WR attempt? Seems tight, 12 or so weeks apart.

Yeah, that seems strange to plan to do both this and London and again have plans for WC.
Doing Dubai would actually give him a good amount of time to prepare for WC.
Of course, if he does DNF, we would presume it would be injury, so seems odd to do London in April as well
Bekele would not be running Dubai if he didn't think he was ready for an attempt at WR. Announced late because he was gauging his recovery from Berlin and subsequent training. If DNF's at Dubai, London could be a fall back.
If he runs all out at Dubai then he will focus on WC's marathon next.

If Bekele simultaneously holds the 5000, 10000, and marathon records, will that make him the undebateable GOAT?
Yes, definitively. In my mind, he's already the GOAT, tough.

Not sure how marathon organisation works, but surely a prestigious marathon such as London wouldn't let/want one of the best marathoners in the world to only do their race as a "fall back"?
Not even considering Bekele's fitness for Dubai, there's no way he's going to get the WR there without some quality pacers. Bekele will need to conserve as much energy as possible for that final 10k, and if Dubai can't get good pacers there's almost no chance.
Also, remember that at Berlin, Bekele had Kipsang continually pushing the pace very near WR, and sometimes faster.
I think KB's ideal plan is to set a new WR in Dubia, and secure selection for worlds so that he can prepare for worlds and not have to worry about running a later spring marathon. He can prepare to face kipchoge in a championship style race, where KB's faster kick will give him the advantage. So we still may see the Kipcgoge/Bekele duel we want to see. I just hope KB is not over doing it by running another M so soon.

yeah, I doubt they would like their race to be a fall-back race as well....but i do think that if Bekele does well in Dubai that he will focus on the WC as that seems to be a priority for him
Trump inauguration and a WR attempt on the same day! It's good to be alive.
I don't get why people think that being in WR shape in London/Dubai would lower the chance for a world championship gold in August. You would think that professional coaches and athletes would be able to manage that 7/4 month period wisely.
Are people arguing that you should train your "marathon kick" in championship years in detriment to pure endurance? (even tough a kick is really reaching the bell with the least amount of fatigue possible)
Wouldn't being in your best possible shape give you the best chance to win a race?
Or are people arguing that a peak in April won't allow for another peak in August?
A trials issue maybe?
Thanks

I dont think people are saying being in WR shape now would lower chance for WC gold. But the fact that Bekele is signed up for both Dubai and London in April and then expected to peak in August again may be tough. Thats not much rest for running fast marathons.
Does anyone know whether past WC or Olympic winners usually run 1 or 2 marathons prior to their win (in that year)
I concur, as much as I am a Bekele's fan, he's being over-ambitious. No way can he beat Mo again on track.
I saw Bekele run 3x half marathon in 59 flat the other day, in trainers.
Expect grate things.

Bekele runs sub 2 and makes the Nike project worthless. You heard it here first.
This made me lol.
Many things that are great are expected.
Looks like weather is going to be to warm for WR, around 20 Celsius or high 60s....
Bekele is the GOAT.
Last year was 10-15 Celsius in the start and i suspect this year will be no less than 15 and probably closer to 20
If Bekele is in shape, why would he not run as many races as he could? He is getting older and has experienced years of injury. Strike while the iron is hot, it may be his last chance!
Check this weather

this month is just warmer than usual years (look at lows this month and avg lows).
It's only 11 days from now so hard to forecast, but if it goes on like this, it is just too warm

Trump hates losers, so when Bekele fails in the WR attempt, that makes Bekele a loser, right?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
