a) What's this "inability to perform when doping controls are strict" business you keep chuntering on about? In the 2015 World Champs she finished 5th which was a great result for her then, entirely in line with her level at the time. In Rio, she did for herself in the semifinal when she followed a very fast last 500 by Dibaba & Hassan instead of taking it easier like Simpson did in that semifinal & just doing enough to qualify. There was no need for Laura to do that. Add in that, in the final, she followed a 57s third lap and, not being blessed with great top-end 800 speed like Kipyegon & Dibaba clearly have, it was a very risky tactic. Inexperience cost her, nothing else.

b) How do they know they can't hold on after a fast 3rd lap if they don't try? Very few of them have tried. Laura has shown them the way to go 3:55. It's up to the others to follow her example if they want to fulfill their PB potential. Most are too concerned with finishing position though hence their saving themselves for a last lap burn-up.

c) I don't see the relevance of it being only her 2nd attempt at 5000. Running 71 second laps for 5000 is no huge, unachievable thing if you can average sub-63 second laps for 1500. The girl is talented. A 3:55 runner SHOULD be able to run 14:49 indoors. The 5000 is no great "mystery" that has to be solved. If you want a fast time just set your pace and stick to it. Easy.

d) If she was Russian I don't think anyone would be calling her an "epopian" or "another doped african". :p

Laura Muir ran a lot of fast races in 2016. Her progression is not suspicious. She is the 2016 Diamond League Champion. She is an Olympian. The clean Scot Laura Muir is the British 1500m record holder.

I thought the 10 Mile 55:00 fartlek session was too easy.

We are doing harder fartlek sessions this year.

It's only human to wonder how someone could be so exceptional. I've got a specific query though. Muir and her coach don't go on the regular UK Athletics warm weather training camps but instead go to South Africa. 'Does anyone know where they train for these three weeks or who they train with?

That's the classic doper progression right there. Steady progression over 5/6 years as a talented teenager through to a top senior athlete. Only dopers continually improve. All the clean athletes get stuck at Letsrun defined standards, which is generally a touch slower than what a particular Letsrunner managed himself.

I have no idea if she's a doper (nothing about her made me think she was) but I do know your post is idiotic and a disgrace to this messageboard from a logic standpiont.

A dumb assertion. Her 3 fastest times all came in the biggest meets on the year where you are guaranteed to get drug tested if you are top 3 - the DL. Her best times came at the London DL (3:57.49), Paris DL (3:55.22) and Zurich DL finale (3:57.85).

Guess what? She went with the big 3rd lap in the Olympics and she tied up as most would.

Muir is far from being some Russian or Turk whom we've never heard of who shows up in an Olympic year, never races on the DL cicruit, only races in obscure races and then takes home hardware.

She's the very opposite of that. She races all the time on the DL circuit, runs fast a lot but also shows she's human by blowing up in the Olympic final.

Maybe they can, maybe they can't. Maybe you think 3:55 shouldn't be unusual, but the fact remains that a grand total of three women who are conceivably clean have ever run under 3:56. Dibaba (twice), Muir, and Hassiba Boulmerka (Algeria). Of the 23 sub-3:56 performances, 12 were from Chinese athletes in the '90s. 5 were by eastern European athletes of the '80s. 2 were by a Turkish athlete who was banned for doping a year later.

Sub 3:56 is something very rare and special and if you don't realize that, then Dibaba's success last year has given you a distorted sense of women's running.

Aside from "ran a fast time" there's nothing to suggest Muir is doped (if you're using that as criteria to assume doping you should probably watch a different sport), and Scotland has produced some excellent middle distance runners.

14'49i with a last 1k of 2'49 is helluva lot quicker off even pace & she ran last 3.2k solo, when in ideal 5k TT you shoud get drafted to 3k & solo last 2k - she was owed at least 1200m drafting, worth at ~ 0.7s/400m at least 2+s

this with even-ning out the whole race indicates to me ~ 14'42i

you have to convert to outdoors & a good figure is men : 12'49i & 12'37 in same year & that conversion is fair as i' have little doubt he was in 12'37 shape in that 12'49i

her 5k form currently outdoors woud be in "perfect race" drafted to 3k of

~ 14'42 * (12'37 / 12'49 ) =

14'28

her speed is always excellent

her current 400 pb is an indoor one set nearly 1y ago at 55.36

she is at least as quick as that now & outdoors, i woud call that 54-mid outdoors at worst as conversion shoud be ~ 3/4s for women

her current shape outdoors i woud estimate

( & this is ungenerous for distances above 1 mile as i believe mile is her "hitting zone" & if 2 - 5k was, she'd be lot quicker than 14'28 outdoors )
