Not too surprising. But I haven't seen a thread on it yet so let's hear some thoughts

I thought he retired a couple years ago. Is it better to burn out or fade away?

He won US Trials in 2015.
He's an all-time American great. He can go out however he wants and his legacy won't be forgotten.
EXCELLENT then lets hope he stays away. Track in the USA will be much better without him
Hope to meet him down at the Portlandia Senior Retirement Center , maybe we can play checkers or shuffleboard.
Symmonds is the man. Coolest track athlete in the US. Centro is cool too.

Whoa whoa. Centro is THE man. Symmonds is a bro too though.
Will this be the year that he comes forward about his sexuality?
Yup, The nerve of someone who speaks out about athletes rights. Those who win in T&F should never speak out against the governing body, no matter how it treats the athletes. Somebody put a muzzle on him. And somebody who wins 6 USA championships? That is just showboating. There is no place for that in the US of A.

Have you seen his smokin' hot 23 year old girlfriend? Girl has the look in her eyes like she's getting wrecked on the reg.

Haters gonna hate. Went from D3 to the top 800 runner in the U.S, which rarely happens. 6 time U.S. 800 meter champ. Sub 1:43. He is a hell of a runner and I hope the U.S. can develop more 800 meter guys that are this good and consistent.
People hate on him because he is cocky and because of his self-promotion. I don't blame him for it. Try to get as much money as you can, while you can. And if someone or governing body is trying to limit your livelihood (i.e. earnings), speak up about it. Wouldn't you (assuming you are of the 0.1 percent that could compete professionally)? To think, this complaining actually benefited other less fortunate runners too as they did not have to face any backlash for publicly expressing the same views.
Unlike most pro runners, he was fortunate enough to make enough money and start a business where he can retire relatively comfortably. Whereas most pro runners that retire need to start looking for a real job for the first time (outside of that part-time shoe store job). Probably starting out at an entry level position 5 to 10 years behind their peers and with little money in their pockets. He was fighting for more rights so his own self-interest so he could make more money, but his fight also benefited these pro-runners getting by on scraps chasing their dreams and those that are still to come into the sport.
He may have annoyed some people, but to say that USA track is going to be better off without him is a short sided. He may not have created the change that he wanted, but he at least got the conversation out in the public eye. If anything, hopefully track athletes continue to speak up like he did and demand better from these governing bodies.
His quote saying, “I’ve never really considered myself a runner,†he said. “Running was a business of mine†and “a great way for me to market products.â€... Makes me never want to buy any of his products.
Is he a cocky douchey showboat? Yes. But I respect him for being willing to be "That Guy" and fight the system. Kids just trying to make their nut are in no position to hold out for more money. He recognized that he was someone who could and did it, and did it vocally. Though he became more of a spectacle as time went on I respect the fact that he was willing to fight the system because he realized he was one of the few in the position to do so. Yes he did make money for himself, his move was not altruistic. But I think he did improve the situation for many runners who will come after him.
You've posted about her before. You seem slightly obsessed. Kinda scary, really.

DANGNABBIT! Nick Symmonds is awesome! That guy has been HUGELY inspirational for the sport. I think he'll be very successful in his future endeavors. I wish him all the best. The sport needs more guys like Symmonds, willing to be loud and bold and not care what people think!
"You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life."--Winston Churchill
No one buys any of the products he markets. What is he even talking about? Run Gum? Total annual sales of about $50,000. Nike? Did they suffer when he left? Has Brooks even sold enough additional shoes to pay for his contract? Sorry Nick but companies who sponsor runners are in the charity business.
Is that $50k accurate? That is ROUGH. he can hardly be in the green on that!
Why the hell would you chew gum before physical activity, even if it contained energy vitamins and caffeine? Chewing stimulates the production of saliva in the mouth and digestive acids in the stomach. Chewing prepares the body for digesting food, a mass of digestive juices and acids swilling around in an empty stomach is not a good thing to have prior to physical exertion.
