Wasn't it a payout for "Best Coach" not "Coach needing more funding" ?
Jerry's group had a great 2016! Well deserved!!
Wow Flotrack has enough money to just hand out 10k to an already well off individual? I know 10k really is not much but as a donation it's certainly significant. Nice!

Yes, coach of the year would denote "best coach". The point is, there are hundreds (thousands?) of coaches out there more in need of $$ than Jerry. Would have been nice to note Jerry as COY but distribute monies elsewhere. Feels like when USATF gives Allyson a hefty payout, while 98% of T and F pro athletes get nothing.
Flotrack benefits from this too...now Jerry might be more willing to do some workout videos
to those complaining about who flotrack decides to give $$$ to, just go away
It is sponsored by T-Mobile. FloTrack is the medium. They don't have that kind of money to shell out.

Yep. Did you read the joke quote from Floreani said in the press release?
“For the last decade, we’ve seen up close what a struggle it can be to compete at the highest level of track,†FloSports co-founder and COO Mark Floreani said. “Many professional track coaches don’t have the sponsorships or deals in place where they can devote 100 percent of their time to their athletes. Our goal with this award is to help deserving coaches continue to pursue their passion and work with the top distance runners in the U.S.â€
Here are the vote totals.
Rank Name (1st-place votes) Total Points % of points
1 Schumacher (9) 109 20.5%
2 Salazar (4) 105 19.7%
3 Wetmore/Burroughs (3) 96 18.0%
4 Browne (2) 74 13.9%
5 Treacy 55 10.3%
6 Wartenburg 47 8.8%
7 LaBadie (1) 46 8.6%
The press release on the award is here:
For those of you worried about the rich getting lots of money, you will be pleased to hear that Ben Rosario and his AZ Hoka One One team have won Running USA's $25,000 Allan Steinfeld Development Award for their great 2016 campaign:

EXACTLY my point. Al Sal came within a vote or two of winning this $10,000, just seems the sport would best be 'furthered along' if the "help to a deserving coach who doesn't have sponsorships or deals" had received the monetary portion of the award.
Jerry will never ever let Flotrack do a video. He doesn't even like his athletes to discuss workout specifics outside the group.

Huh? Not sure I was complaining, just making an observation that I was hoping would spur some semblance of a 'conversation' Sorry you're miffed. Do I still have to go away??

. . .this grant was actually presented near the beginning of 2016 (at the Running USA conference in LA the weekend of the Olympic Trials/LA Marathon). But yes, that's still an example of funding going to a "needy" coach/group (which is not to say that only "needy" groups should receive outside funding).
It's nice that Schu won the electoral vote, but did Danny Mackey win the popular vote?
I'd like to see them think outside the box a bit. Most of the candidates are the coaches of elites in the USA. No offense to Schumacher, Salazar and their ilk, but they have the best talent by far. I know the Akron coach and a couple other, non traditional coaches were on the list, but open it up to some other college coaches (D3, D2?) or even HS (FM coach? Great Oak Coach?) coaches. Successful coaching is all about what you do with level and age of talent you have. Getting Mo and Rupp to win medals or having a bunch of the already best go to the Olympics is good coaching but somewhat expected.

Maybe not, but he let's them talk about making a joke of u.s indoor 3k by colluding together by setting pacemakers while sacrificing some teammates along the way.

What is wrong with that?

They all look strange and familiar to me at the same time.
That is weird.
