RIP Miruts...but how was he 40 years old in 1980 and 72 now?

Yiftur the Shifter had one serious gear left to go to at the end.
Interestingly frank commentary about Viren's "blood exchanges" and about Yiftur's real age.
Why did Yifter run Moscow in AFRICA uniform? He would have been DQ'd if it was NCAA.
RIP Miruts Yifter
Ethiopian. But lived for many years in Canada and died in Canada.
Better than any Canadian runner . . . ever.
But sadly no recognition given to him in Canada.
What do you expect from the All White Male Distance Runner Fraternity (AWMDRF).
Rest In Peace Yifter The Shifter.

He was one of the very few people to beat Ovett at his peak over the last lap.

When did he ever do that?
world cup in '77 or '79 (?)
Yifter the Shifter was awesome.
Running track in the 70s, Pre was our hero, but Yifter showed us another way to get things done with great style. Cool dude!
He was the king of Moscow in 1980, but I remember some great duels with Marty Liquori over 5000 in '77-'78. They traded wins, but I think Yifter won the World Cup.
You are thinking of 1977 World Cup where Gifted beat Liquorice in the 5K final. I don't think Yifter ever raced Ovett.

it was 30.07.1977 at Gateshead in a 5000m. Yifter ran 13:20,6 to Ovett's 13:25,0.

It's sad to hear such a great man and runner has died. i saw him run in madison square garden in the 70s and have many videos of his races. yifter was quite the shifter. i have wonderful memories of his great performances. his cheerful presence will be missed.
