Does no one else find it interesting how Jerry Schumacher's (Nike Coach) son, Joshua Schumacher, ran Footlocker (finished 27th at Morley Field) and NOT NXN. IMO this speaks volumes to the prestige that Footlocker still carries. Any thoughts?

Really? If you were a HS'er, would you rather run a race in your hometown, or get a trip to sunny San Diego?
I don't care one way or the other. What's your agenda?
He had little chance of qualifying for non. Smart.
NXN

He explained why he wasn't at NXN in an interview before BorderClash. Summary was that he has been dealing with an injury this fall, which is why he missed the majority of his meets, and didn't feel good enough to risk it by running at NXR. He was on a wait and see basis for FLN, but apparently he felt healthy enough to try.
Just watch the interviews with the kids after whine they're asked if they(the returning one next year) would rather do nxn or footlocker, it's pretty clear what they think is better lol

Kind of like the NXN kids when they are at NXN. Would you do any different?

Well most of the kids that race for teams aren't good enough to make footlocker. R ember the 2nd team point at NXN for girls was 20th. That would be hard to make it FL. Of course they'd prefer to come back to NXN.

20th at NXN was 55 seconds behind Oakley.
20th at FLN was 57 seconds behind Lane.
If Oakley ran at least as well as Lane, then that would imply that NXN was deeper through 20 at least. Hard to say that kids who qualify for NXN aren't as good as kids that qualify for FLN.
Also, that doesn't address the point I was making (if you just ran at a national championship race where they pampered you, and you are being interviewed, you're probably not going to say "Oh yeah, this meet sucks. Wish I ran the other race.")
Well ask the individuals which they think is better then, reed brown for one and Finn were obviously taking footlocker more seriously, Finn was his nx regional champ and didn't run nationals for it lol
What a dumb statement to say Brown did not take NXN seriously. Southlake Carroll is all about team!!! Brown was very close to 2nd place at nxn just was not able to use his great kick as well after 3 miles in super soft mud that felt like quicksSand. Footlocker course was more suit able for his kick. The facts are this nxn is getting bigger and bigger every year just look at the participation numbers at nxr in championship and open races. Footlocker still offers a unique and different feel as it is individuals only. Both good races both legit national championship races. No one is going to blow off any national championship race!
I said "more seriously" not that he didn't take it seriously at all, and like I said Finn won his regional and didn't even go that says a lot ya know....
Why can't both organizations get together and have one big national meet?

It's not surprising. At FL the qualifiers are 1 of 40 and get treated and pampered like a professional. At NXN the qualifiers are 1 of nearly 400. This is not a knock on Nike, but it is impossible to duplicate the experience. Apples to oranges. And his is coming from a NXN fan.
With regards to the annual questions about why don't they just combine, Nike was willing to do just that back in the early years, but FL wanted to keep their format as is. Nike wanted to see an event with both teams and individuals and moved forward on their own. Nothing wrong with the decisions made by either company.

Brown: I'd bet he took NXN every bit as seriously as FLN, despite your opinion.
Gessner: Yes, he chose FLN over NXN. Others didn't (see: Principe, Norman, Bernal, Kilrea, Miley, etc.).
Many of the kids that were able to do both did both. Of those that had to choose, there was clearly a split.
every year i think the nxn nike money machine will once and for all take over and dominate all while stealing the prestige and history of FL nats... but then i see the hundreds of kids dancing through the mud struggling to break 16:00 and just feel sorry for them. FL always has and always will be the real High school nationals.
yawn
Dumbest response you could've constructed.
No "agenda" - Just wanted to pose that Footlocker's history will always make me feel like FL is the true Championship. I am glad that the next generation still has athletes making the better choice, though it is not currently the "popular" choice.
