My daughter has swam for 8 years and recently completed her first cross country season as a 9th grader. She finished the season with a 19:28 5-k and recently did a 5:19 mile to give you some background. This was fine with 4 months of running trains by. I have been concerned about some of her training as the coach who I do like is a hard charger. I think she is developing compartment syndrome as her calves experience pain and numbness during long runs. She seems to be ok during track workouts. I have had similar issues in the past but usually only at the beginner my of training programs. What should i do as her parent? She is a new runner and I think she still needs to develop her base. We rolled right into indoor track season with no break and some of the workouts seem aggressive for a new runner. It is complicated but I believe every runner is different and should be handled differently. They are running about six times a week with probably 2 speed workouts per week and I feel like some of her longer workouts are being run too fast. She still swims full time too.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
