So Achilles and racing this weekend. Anything i can do before to help?

    I had a sold workout yesterday .On my 2nd run i noticed pain on my Achilles at the start but it went away.This has been a slight problem for the last few weeks.A little worse this week. I feel a little swelling. I felt good on the workout yesterday (Wednesday).Is there any chance i can race this weekend either Saturday or Sunday ?This is the last weekend before my birthday (i turn 44) and i wanted to run a race.My daughters were coming to watch me.Also what day would be better to race on Saturday or Sunday?Is there anything i can do between now and then?

    I just dealt with this issue before NYC. You can probably get away with racing on it, but unless this is a huge race that you have been building up for I would probably bag it. Achilles injuries are bad news. Trying to race or train through will only make it worse. Better to shut it down now and nip it in the bud. Your rehab should include ice, rest, and a boatload of eccentric heel drops. Like 3x20, 3 times per day. Add weight as tolerated. I have also found that wearing a PF night splint helps. If you do race I would listen very carefully to your body and shut it down at the first sign of pain. I would not try to medicate through it unless you've had an MRI to rule out a partial tear. You do not want a ruptured Achilles.

    From a guy who ran on a sore achilles 10 years ago and hasn't been able to run more than 20mpw pain free since, take some time off until the thing feels 100% better.
