Boone and Blowing Rock are about 40 mi away. We will be near Ferguson for Christmas. Anyone know of good places to run near here? I've tried Google but thought I would ask.

Looks like there are some good trails behind the post office right off of 268, but I have no clue what those are... You're kind of in the sticks, and unless that is an established set of trails, you need to be careful b/c you're in the heart of deer hunting country.
Might be worth the short drive to BR every morning to run Bass Lake carriage trails or Trout Lake trails. Looks like you can just pop up 321. If you go in the AM, it shouldn't take more than 25-30 minutes.
I used to spend holidays in Shelby, NC off of a main highway and running was a total pain. I used to run on highway 150 and dodge cars until my parents saw me and made me stop. Then I would run up and down my grandparents street which was probably 0.8 miles long. I finally wised up and started driving to local trails and that served as a nice break from sitting in a house with family for 5 days straight. You'll probably welcome the time alone and the trails are worth it.
I appreciate it! I did notice those trails behind the post office and was thinking the same. I found out that the place we're staying will have (from the description at least) "miles and miles of horse trails"
I just learned of the exact location today and found out that important nugget. Thanks again!
i might be worth the drive up to Moses Cone park to run
be wary of 'horse trails' the footing can be awful if they are the least bit damp and get much use
There are world class Mountain bike trails in nearby Wilkesboro. Surely you can run on some of them. Check out singletracks.com about trails in Wilkesboro
