So, to describe things, I have just recently recovered(mostly) from a stress fracture in my femur after a very hard summer of training, peaking at around 60 miles a week of very well planned runs. The stress fracture was non running related. This winter I am taking off Winter Track and working out instead and trying to build mileage for Spring Track. My main goal, considering I've only built up to 4 miles per run, is to get very strong for the 800 and mile. Does anyone have any advice on how to do this--should I focus on strength? I do tons of core due to lack of running availability, and plenty of upper body. I can certainly take it up a notch. Or, should I focus on building mileage and implementing speed work and striders as my mileage rises.
If you need an idea of my current and past condition:
Coming out of the Summer, I was in shape to go just under 16 in the 5k.
I (stupidly) raced a 5k after about 2 weeks of running, I ran 18:01.
I don't consider myself to be an incredible runner, but I do have the willingness to work hard and everyday.
My goals are to go sub 2 in the 800 and 4:27 in the mile if possible. Again, if there is a possibility to do so, I'll be glad to read any advice on getting there.
Thanks!
