I have a paper delivered to my house 3 days a week. A guy drives by and tosses the paper in front of my house. At the end of the year, he includes in one of my papers a holiday card with a self-addressed envelope for me to mail him a tip. How much should I mail give him? $10? $20? Not that it matters, but I have never talked to him or even seen him. He delivers early before I get up. The service is pretty good, although not perfect. I have a few missed papers per year that I have to call in.

I am sure there are days when it is raining hard or very cold. Missing a few papers a year is a great rate. My carrier failed to deliver about 10 per cent of the time. Give him $20 unless you can afford $50.
Take him to a movie; the old penis in the popcorn box trick is a holiday 'tip' you'd likely both enjoy.
Have you not tipped him occasionally during the year? If he's delivered all year without a tip then $20 at least (figure that's only $5 every 3 months)

I am a newspaper delivery driver. All of my co-workers do, but I don't solicit tips at Christmas time...it's just tacky to me. But it is much appreciated, as the job pays shit (they newspaper companies all hire carriers as independent contractors to avoid paying minimum wage, benefits, gas, or wear and tear on vehicle). they work 365 days a year in all weather. I would be estatic to get $10 from someone.
