No hard to figure out how this happened. Illegal housing. No fire inspections. Owner of the building should be arrested. City of Oakland negligence.

Did the building's owner consent to having this rave take place on his property? If not, then why should he be liable?

Very cool place.......if it was a barn on private property that didn't have electricity and only you used it. You can tell a lot of talented arty, naive people decorated that, but the fact that many people were in there is criminal.
Big question is why the city of Oakland didn't inspect and close the parties down. They had to know what was going on there. The owner and idiot that was leasing it should be charged criminally.
How many people? I just saw a bunch of pics of stuff.

It wasn't only the party. There were multiple people using that as an apartment too and no fire suppression system at all. Even and empty warehouse should have smoke detectors and a fire alarm.

Hey give the city a break, man. They're very busy determining which laws to enforce and which ones to ignore. The end justifies the means.

The space, which was also known as Satya Yuga, was run by Derick Ion, who lived there on the second floor with his wife, Micah Allison, and children, who were staying at a hotel during the Friday event. In a Facebook post Friday night, Ion wrote, “Everything I worked so hard for is gone. Blessed that my children and Micah were at a hotel safe and sound.â€
