    By 2007, Whittaker said his bank account had mostly been cleaned out and in 2009 his daughter passed away.

    And he’s blamed the Powerball win on much of the woes he’s experienced in the last decade or so.

    “My granddaughter is dead because of the money. She was the shining star of my life, and she was what it was all about for me,” he told ABC News in 2007. “You know, my wife said she wished that she had torn the ticket up. Well, I wish that we tore the ticket up too.”

    No, it's not the Powerball's fault. It's your own stupidity man.

    Easy for a broke or even middle class ignorant idiot to say a person is dumb for losing a fortune. Sometimes the lifestyle of money consumes that person to do things they would never have done without the money. If they can't stop the lifestyle they will go broke. Perhaps if this man did not win that Powerball, his life would be better and he would have worked hard and not taken money for granted. But his potential was lost as a result of acquiring money he technically earned but his heart knew he really didn't work to "earn" it. Him saying that he wishes he didn't win that lottery speaks volumes. I bet some other lottery winners will say the same.

    Google says this Whittaker guy was already a millionaire when he won that lottery, famous as the biggest ever at the time. Went from a lot of money to Too much money.

    Saw a 20/20 show on him years ago. He was a sympathetic guy ... had a very successful construction business of some sort.

    Granddaughter got hooked on drugs and his business started getting sued like crazy by people after his money.

    Have no idea how he blew through 113 million though. And didn't even have insurance on his house!

    Dude I feel bad for him but come on.

    Let's see here.

    1) He loses $545,000 that he had in the trunk of his car when he passed out at a strip club. That's on him

    2) He loses this house because he didn't buy insurance for it. That's on him.
