Alan, once again your opinion. Mine is that NSCA is great for those wanting to learn olympic lifting and wanting to train sports like football.
ACSM requires more knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics than any other certification.
Internships, practical experience are most important anyway as most of the leaders in the industry will attest. Cross fit Is only as good as the coaching, same with running clubs and any sport.
And your statement is wrong. There's just as much anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics in the NSCAs "bible" as there is in the ACSMs.
ACSM is much more clinical in nature while NSCA is much more practical in nature. If you're going the route of physical therapy, athletic training, cardiac rehab, PhD in Ex.Phys I would take the ACSM cert over the NSCA. If you're going the route of working with a healthy population, coaching, strength coach, personal trainer, go with the CSCS.
That being said, I learned much more practical knowledge during my internship and during the actual application of knowledge during the course of the last 12 years since graduating. Truth be told, I've learned more about screening and needs analysis and the finer points of program design since joining the Army.
Your bachelors program, your certs, are nothing more than a "check the block" and ensure you at least know how to not kill someone....hopefully.
