Hey all-
I'm new-ish to longer distance racing, at least in the sense that I ran only middle distance in college and have no track PRs to speak of over 1500m.
I recently ran a 5k road race on an established, correctly measured course in 15:48. My first mile was 5:16, my second mile was 5:11, so I guess my last 1.1 was 5:28. I won by 11 seconds (wasn't in first until the last half mile).
I live in a flat area, though the first half mile of this race is a very slight uphill grade and the second mile is rolling (with a net gain) and 5 turns. It's by no means a hard course, but it isn't as flat or simple as a track (obviously). The weather was typical midwestern November weather--cold, but not terrible.
I'm trying to plan a spring season, and I'm curious about trying out a 5,000m on the track (and maybe a mile for VERY old time's sake). I have no sense of how the track compares to the roads, or even how my performance might improve from evening out my splits. Any thoughts?
(My 1500 PR is 4:01 and my mile PR is 4:21, but those were five years ago and my training was completely different. I ran 4:28 on the track last year in a non-goal race going 2:20/2:08.)
