I hope he changes the name back to Department of War.
Isn't he a gay bird? I bet he was peeking in to the showers when the recruits scrubbed and rubbed.
These days, the wuss (male) Marines even hold umbrellas.
Yeah. I wonder if Pence will try to use shock therapy to convert the general.
FAIL. He was on active duty within 7 years. Federal law prohibits him.
Trump already violating the law.
If he is approved....

FALSE. The Senate has the option if granting an exception and confirming him. The Republican controlled Senate will do this.

Democrats can filibuster, but won't be hard to find 8 Dems to defect to break filibuster for a candidate as full as awesome as General Mattis.
Although Trump was a draft dodger, he picked the best man for the job.
Isn''t Trump and Congress going to officially (amend the US Constitution) split off the USMC into it's own 4th Branch of the US Government?
Dirty. Nasty. Leg.
(hoo-ah!)
I was a Marine. For eight glorious years. Mattis was a legendary figure in the Corps my entire stint, and perhaps sits only a few rungs below Chesty or Sergeant Major Kasal. He's the sort of general any Marine rifleman would follow straight into hell, myself included.
But as Secretary of Defense, I fear he'll only bolster an administration of fear, suspicion, intervention, state toppling, and wars. No thank you. I've been to war. Many times. I'm tired. I'm hurt. I don't want anymore.
I want the office of the secretary of defense to be defense minded, not offense minded as we as a nation have been since WWII.

If you read more into him than the chest thumping stuff you see in the media and FB you will know that he is VERY intelligent and well-read man. He really doesn't like the nickname Mad Dog and is also known as the Warrior Monk. He has been known to cite ancient Roman and Greek literature.
Does he remind anyone else of Patton?
Don't ask, don't tell...

Already Democrats (Gillibrand, possible 2020 candidate) are lining up to say they will vote against a waiver.
"Civilian control of our military is a fundamental principle of American democracy, and I will not vote for an exception to this rule."
That Mattis guy is a punch drunk spent shell of a man. the marines did too many head-strikes to Mattis too many times. He belongs in a hospice.

Weak, House put in the waiver already to the budget funding that "must" pass on Dec 9 (continuing resolution). Boxer plans to be against giving Flint people $170m of water due to Endangered Species. Without unanimous consent, it will be delayed (at least) until Monday, with 3 votes needed.
