Lucky man.
From that beacon of Scandinavian perfection? Say it ain't so. Slippery slope, people. Slippery slope. Life is precious. May he rest in peace.
I hope this continues. We need more of this.
The Netherlands is not part of Scandinavia.

I know, but it abuts Scandinavia and has the same political culture so it may as well be Scandinavia. They're all northern Germanic.

Yeah but its not. Even if it fits with your diatribe.
And where did you get the idea that life is precious? Its not. Plenty of people have it. Plenty lose it, and it seems the numbers continue to increase.
While you may be precious, you will not be missed.

This ^. No one was consulted on being forced into their own existence. Anyone should be able to decide to end it in a peaceful, painless way. Even if our brains evolved to try & tell us otherwise.

How long until we have a duty to die on the state's terms?
I am reminded of Justice Brennan who voted for Roe in the 7-2 decision that said there was a right to privacy that permitted abortion in the USA. Years later, he said ~ "We never thought it would get like this."

I'll miss him. I will also miss you. May this Dutch man rest in peace and God bless his soul.
Netherlands does not abut Denmark. You'd have to cross over northern Germany. But they do have similar political views. Closer to Scandinavia than central Europe, politically.

I agree.

Yeah, cuz the wire hanger trick is a much better alternative.
You really should provide context for your quote. In my research, I can't find any evidence he said that. What I could find was that Brennan personally did not approve of abortion as a devout catholic. However, he was candid in that personal viewpoints have no place in court. I think that speaks a lot for his character and his respect for government by recognizing this is a public health issue.

First of all, you cannot justify a terrible action by saying an ever worse action is more terrible. It isn't an either/or. How about we just don't kill babies?
Secondly, respect for government should not come before respect for basic human decency. That is how you end up with regimes like the Third Reich.
But I understand that you view it differently and I can respect a difference of opinion. I just don't like those lines of argument.
OK - I think this makes a lot of sense. But where is the line. This guy wasn't going to die because he was an alcoholic - just live an impacted life. But what about people with really bad eyesight? Runners who have injuries that keep them from running forever? Depression?

'An Lawyer' doesn't make any sense.

Yes, yes and yes if that's what they want.
I like ham sandwiches

Former head of Planned Parenthood Dr. Bernard Nathanson said that abortion advocates lied to overstate the number of maternal deaths due to illegal abortions. And what maternal deaths there were would now largely be eliminated anyway with antibiotics. It's been one lie after another from the abortion advocates (e.g., Roe's lawyers said Roe (Norma McCorvey) was pregnant by rape though she herself denies this (she never had an abortion by the way and has been pro-life for years now, as was Dr. Nathanson for years before his death)).
Even Justice Ginsburg said Roe v Wade went too far. -
http://www.thomhartmann.com/bigpicture/ginsburg-roe-v-wade-went-too-farAnd left-of-center high profile law professors Laurence Tribe and Alan Dershowitz have been very critical of Roe. -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roe_v._WadeSeeing as the only outlets that have glommed on to this story have clear agendas, I'm going to take this one with a grain of salt. Still, not sure how alcoholism or depression would fit the definition of "no prospect of improvement."
The slippery slope argument is a cop out. Surely there is a humane sweet spot between government either forcing people to endure unholy agony and a complete loss of dignity in their senescence and being an accomplice in the suicide of the mentally ill.
