Has anyone had any experience or know anything about using boxing bag training as strength work for 3k/ 5k/10k racing? Looking to add a stimulus/freshen up strength training. Any insight/suggestions much appreciated.

Been tried before by Jamin. Total fail. Jammers and runners don't mix.

Good question. I was thinking the same thing about doing a bit of cross-training with boxing.
I don't really think it would help with running, per se. But, I have no aspirations of going pro, running races, going for PR's, etc. I simply want to be healthy.
I thought it would give me some upper body strength, some upper body coordination, & some self confidence.
Could boxing be a variation of upper body work of push-ups, pull-ups, 3 way delts, bench pressing, etc.? Sure.
BUT, I do believe in running specificity. Is boxing specific to running? No.
But, could it--in the long run (no pun intended)--renew your interest in running? Maybe.
Alan Webb should maybe come out of retirement and become a professional boxer. He could be the next great Muhamad Ali!
Thanks for the feedback. I guess I was thinking of replacing/supplementing weights and/or core training with the boxing bag.
