Have you ever heard of observer bias?
Thirty years ago I would work out once a week with my girl friend's running club. Mile repeats done all-out.
The other day I would run track work-outs with the guys. Anything from quarter miles to mile repeats.
I'm convinced that women can endure more pain for a lot longer than we can.
I think the reaction your seeing in the chutes is real. It's not for show, attention or drama.
My girl friend at the time was far from being a drama queen and she would almost collapse at the end of a xc race.
All 3, plus a few more probably. Normally the insecure ones.
Unless you mean confirmation bias, you are implying that he is causing the participants (the girls) to cry. Which is a pretty good joke.

Also confirmation bias doesn't occur here because he is right. I have see one boy pass out and dozens of girls pass out/cry in my 8 years.
My guess would be exhaustion/hormones/emotional differences. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Probably not social influence but it could be.

I don't know. Why do some men pass out in the delivery room?
DUH, foolish boy. That proves they ran on PURE HATE. The hate is released when the deed is done.
If you finish a run and are all smiles then you DID NOT run on PURE HATE. You did not achieve your maximum potential.
In my experience, girls try harder than guys.

Don't forget about the whole anonymous factor. Talk about a REAL man.
According to you, women are tougher than men, yet they are far more prone to crying after finishing? How does that make sense? Crying repeatedly is for the weak! Man tears are excused once in a blue moon. Everybody gets one.
Why do people think the actions of a small subset of a group are automatically representative of the whole?

False? You've obviously not seen many girls XC races.
It's fashionable. Up to about 20yrs ago very, very few flopped down, although girls crying was not that unusual after a bad run. Now it's de rigeur to be Shakespearian at the end just to justify their scholarships. Coaches expect it.
For the same reason girls wail and break down at concerts for the likes of The Beatles and Justin Bieber.
Hey vivalarepublica, I've seen a bunch of your posts on here and appreciate you calling out various groups like this. Are you single by any chance?
It's so they can discreetly re-insert their fallen vaginas.
I'm going to offer a serious reply despite the sexist and otherwise foolish ones here already.
XC races take a lot out of these kids, and they at times react very emotionally. It is not just girls however—girls are conditioned by society that showing emotion is OK, whereas boys are conditioned to keep it inside. Walk around any XC meet and you'll find plenty of boys in a corner somewhere nearly passed out or even crying. Look at the photos from NXN Regionals if you don't believe me: the photographers caught some great examples of this, which I don't think is very fair to the athletes involved but it does prove the point.
Women actually have a greater capacity to expend all of their resources and to delve deeper into the emotional base. Funny how some of you guys complain about this in running, but in a certain other far more enjoyable endeavor, you'd be glad for it.
