Didn't a Greyhound win this year?
How much time do you have to be active with the dog? How much time would the dog be alone?
The best breed is a mutt. Fewer vet bills.

Sorry. Biegel
Great dogs. Super energetic, friendly and playful. Gotta reign in that energy though or they can get out of hand (chewing, barking, etc)
Australian Shepherd. Big enough to do anything you want, but small enough to be healthy and to fit most places (about 60 lbs). Few health problems, generally very stable temperaments, extremely physically capable--they will go all day without getting tired. An active dog not suitable for an apartment or a couch potato, but if you have some space and/or are physically active, a great breed.

Looks like the Labradors win with 496 Electoral Votes. I certainly voted for them. My Lab loves distance runs as much as I do.

Too broad. Narrow it down to the best breed at blank. For instance the best breed of guard dogs, or for herding or search and rescue, etc.
I love my Lab mix but never can get it together with him for a decent run. Too much sniffing at anything ground level and pissing/marking of same. Really good long walks, though. I recently fostered a relative's Vizsla mix and within 2 months he could run 6 miles easily @ < 8 mile / minute pace. No apparent urge to stop to "mark" and only sniffs in the air. A real cuddler, too. My idiot relatives thought it was a "crazy lab" tearing their house up, only letting him out in back yard, hardly took walks and never ran with him. I also had a German Shepherd / Anatolian Shepherd mix for 9 years. She loved to run in the powdered snow and we would sneak on outdoor ice rinks at night where she would run around and slide. Didn't like temps over 80 degrees, however, just short walks during summer once she got to middle age. For laughs i would walk her through our small town at night, letting her stop and admire through the windows of the restaurants the patrons' various steaks, pizzas, etc. - she must have looked like the big bad wolf on the other side. All of the above rescues, by the way, and I am referring to them by their most obvious breed type characteristics. All of them are "the best"!
German Shepherd or you're queer.

My Lab loves to swim too, but she'll also run all day.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
