I hate to say it, but we get this kind of 'tease' result from him almost every year at this point. There was one year where he ran a similar 5k on the track, then nothing. Another where he ran a decent 1500 in (I think) Belgium, and then nothing.
I hope for nothing but the best, but have stopped believing.
I hate to say it, but we get that you have no conception of Morgan Pearson's track record. There was one year (2012) where he ran for duke and ran 14:03. Good but not great. He transferred to colorado and improved the next year to 13:49 indoors and finished tenth at nationals. At the subsequent outdoor season, he ran 30 flat at altitude, followed by a 13:38 5k at payton jordan. He doubled at Pac-12s and finished 7th in the 10K.
In 2015, Morgan came back indoors and ran 13:43 and 7:51. At nationals, he finished 5th in the 3000m. An improvement on his tenth place from 2014. BTW that 7:51? good for fourth on the CU list.
Outdoors, he ran a PB in the 5000m 13:36. and then went on to finish 3rd in the 10000m then come back and finish 3rd in the 5000. Behind who? Behind Cheserek and Jenkins. Ahead of who? Pierce Murphy, Will Geohegan, Jake Leingang and Ammar Moussa to name a few guys.. Maybe you've heard of them? Not making excuses for Morgan here but that season likely would've ended in an AA had he not run 4 x 5000, 1 x 10000, 1 x 800, 1 x 1500. How many PR races does a guy have in him during 1 year?
In the fall of 2015, he came back to finish second at the rocky mtn shoot out, 15th at prenats, 14th at Pac-12s, 8th at regionals and perhaps in his worst performance of the season 25th at nationals. A quiet indoor season was capped with a 5th place finish in the 5000 and a sort of underwhelming outdoor season. Although that "underwhelming outdoor season" did see him finish second in the PAC12 5000m.
Now, as a professional he runs a road 5K PR and finishes third at XC nationals behind a 13:04 5000m guy and a 8:18 steeple guy.
Are you so sure Morgan Pearson is a flash in the pan runner? or have you just not had your eyes peeled while he quietly chipped away?
Go Morgan!
