I am a 15 year old sophomore boy.
Freshman Pr's:
5k: 21:47
3200m: 12:18
1600m: 5:38
800m: 2:38
(Side note: I got injured during track and those 800m and 1600m aren't really good indicators of what shape I was in right before I got injured.)
This summer before this track season I didn't really have great training leading up to cross country. I had to take a week or 2 off in July and I probably averaged 25 mpw during my good running weeks. All in all, not very good training and I wasn't expecting too much from cross country this year.
When cross country started this year, we immediately started workouts to get us into shape. We did 2-3 workouts and 5-6 mile recovery runs for an average of 25-30. My race progression went pretty well throughout the year. I'm rounding times up a little because I don't want people tracking me.
13:05 2 mile time trial
12:40 3200m hilly course
20:20 5000m hilly course
21:50 5000m I had the flu and it was a hard course
19:50 5000m good course
20:00 5000m really hard course
19:30 5000m good course
These are my goals for my sophomore year of track:
800m: 2:18 (2:15 stretch)
1600m: 5:10 (4:59)
3200m: 11:15 (10:59)
I know the stretch goals are pretty far fetched but any input would help or people who were in a similar situation. I don't have indoor track because I live in a cold state. I do cross country skiing as cross training along with running on the weekends or any day that I can get it in. During track I've done a lot of workouts that indicated times faster than what I was running for cross country which makes me think that I will do better on the track in shorter distances than 5000m. For example, I don't remember the exact workout but we did 1000m repeats and I did them around 3:40 and worked down to below 3:30 which people said was way faster than 19:30 shape.
Goals for junior year cross country and track:
5000m: 17:30
800m: 2:05
1600m: 4:35
3200m: 10:10
As you know with everyone who makes these posts, I'm going to up my mileage during the start of spring when skiing ends. I'll also up my miles during the summer. Hoping to get up to consistent 40's before track and get around mid 50's during the summer.
