Agreed, he will be the NCAA champ in 2017, but not do to coaching. That guy has ruined more talent than he has developed.
Grant Fisher is a freak

yawn--this is what you find to be newsworthy?
Don't know why you would say what you have said about irrelevance.
On the world scene, Grant Fisher has represented the United States at the world Youth and world Junior championships. At world Youth he made the finals and was the youngest in the field. At world Juniors he was the youngest competitor in the 1500 m was up against some seriously older athletes and didn't make it through to the finals. That was a few years back and he still is world Junior eligibility at 19 years old.
Fisher is very talented so is Justin and many others in the NCAA. Many of the guys upfront at this years XC championships were seniors and 5th year seniors. Next year is a new chapter. I never thought Fisher would do as well as he has in XC at such a young age due to the distance involved. He has remarkable range and mental ability to compete.
Best of luck to him and all the young guys that make up the future of running.
So from the sound of this thread, it seems that it will be the battle of Canadians next year. Alberta, Canada born Fisher going against the Canadian Knight

Fisher is more talented than Knight. And smarter. Fisher was doing the same low mileage in high school and ran sub 4:00. Look at his progesssion, he gets better every year.
Knight is good but not Fisher good. Hopefully Grant ( and knight!) stays healthy
Lol Knight is good but not Fischer good? When has Fischer good ever been better than Knight good? Knight destroyed Fischer both this weekend and at Wisco earlier in the season. Pretty sure Knight has also gotten better every year. Remember, Knight didn't start running until his junior year of high school. I think he's got way more in the tank and I think he'll dominate next year. Fischer is good but let's be real, 2nd was way better than 5th this weekend.
Flagpole said Hillary would win election like 100000 times! Flagpole is in exile now. Put you money where your mouth is or shut up.
I think since we're comparing Knight to this Fischer feller we can also say the same things for Fisher in comparison to him as well
At the same age:
Knight
1500: 3:39.6
5000: 13:34
NCAA xc = 4th
Fisher
1500: 4:42.8
5000: 13:30
NCAA xc = 5th
Fisher's progression over 5000m has been better than Knight's. However, Knight is showing more speed as well as better xc performance.
Let's see if Fisher runs 3:39.2 and 13:25 in 2017. He certainly could, but let's see...
Both of these Canadians are good.
You mean this for Fisher, right? 1500: 3:42.8 (he's not 4:42)
Get over it crazy Canucks.
Fisher was born in Canada to a Canadian and US citizen. He has lived in the USA since before he was three years old. He has competed for the United States at two World Championships. He is American.
Some people on letsrun feel that Lagat (who has lived in the US longer than Fisher) is not an American
I am simply following letsrun standards
Last time I heard Knight is only running 60 miles/ week...and will move it up to 75 next year. The guy ran 13:25 and beat Rupp last summer. He is going to run close to 13:15 this summer I would wager. Fisher is amazing, but Knight is too and likely faster (and a year stronger). Knight will beat Fisher next year...

Good interview.
Good role model.
Good for the sport.
Good post. Agree 100% I will not be betting against Grant for the win next year. The boy can fly!

So Lagat came to the US when he was 3?
So Fisher ran for Canada?
So Fisher had a positive A sample?

Immigrants with positive A samples can never become Americans?

As far as 1996 guys, these guys are good in the 5k and up distances but would get crushed by Blake Haney in the mile...
Nah dood, Thomas Ratcliffe for the win
Thank you for sharing your opinion. It's OK to disagreeI shared mine as well, which was that Grant Fisher would beat Knight next year at NCAA XC Champs. Fisher was 17th last year (frosh), this year 5th. He'll win in 2017.Fisher will also run some amazing track times this year if he isn't injured. I'm sure Knight will as well. To answer one of your questions, 'Fisher good' beat Knight in the 5000m finals this year, by 10 seconds. He was 3 seconds behind Tiernan who ran 13:20 later in the summer.....

I would say that Knight made the a big jump last year and another one this year. it is unlikely he will make ANOTHER big jump before next fall, but it isn't impossible.
Fisher was 5th today behind 4 absolute STUDS. Tiernan, Ches, Futsum and Knight have incredible resumes.
Fisher and Knight have both not used a RS season of XC so they may not both run next year between either injury or how good the team is looking that season versus down the road (like how Futsum RS last year).
Fishers dad was born and raised in Canada, and Fisher was born in Canada. I agree he is culturally more American due to most of his life in Michigan, but he is Canadian-American none the less.
