Inspired by another thread, if Galen devoted enough time to the steeple, could he beat Even Jager?
I think, given his endurance, solid turnover, and years of flexibility training, he could perhaps pull it off.

Jager body type is perfect for the steeple, I honestly don't think Rupp could ever be as smooth going over the barriers. I don't think steepling is something that just takes an amount of time spent training to perfect, I think it requires some sort of genetic endowment to be the best possible. But maybe I'm wrong, and any world class runner could transfer over to the steeple and given enough time training, would end up perfecting the art of steepling and be able to perform to the best of their running ability.
LOL, come on. Rupp falls more frequently in flat races than Jager in the steeple.
Galen could not beat Jager in a flat 3000m. End of thread.
I think Jager's 3:32 is too much for Rupp these days.
The steeple is one of the new non-Rupp certified events on the track. Could you imagine AlSal letting his prize pig crash into barriers or bite it in the water jump? Too ridiculous to even consider.
Rupp couldn't beat Knight over 5000m. I doubt that he could beat Jäger over the steeple.
"Knight for the win in 2016"
http://nwnewsnetwork.org/post/path-olympics-goes-across-water-pit-and-over-28-barriers-steeplechaseJerry Schumacher:
Coach Schumacher describes Jager as a "total natural" at the steeplechase. He has the needed "pop in his step†and the athleticism of a basketball player.
"Some distance runners, they try a lay-up and they can't. A lay-up is uncoordinated and difficult for them,†Schumacher explained. “Those aren't the one you want to be doing the steeplechase. Evan can do a lay-up beautifully."

Well if we're talking RIGHT NOW, then you're probably right seeing how Rupp is a marathoner now. If we talk all time, well let me know once Jager goes under 7:30.1.
are you kidding me??? Absolutely no way. Not even close. Not even a discussion. Jager all the way.

All those fancy shoes, yet Galen can't hit a lay-up. Sad!
Simple no. Rupp does not have the closing speed of Jager nor the height and leg length.
Who's Even Jager?

He's taller than Ezekiel Kemboi and Saif Saaeed Shaheen...

Awesome that you posted this because it was the exact quote I was thinking of when I saw this thread.
I'll disagree with the apparent majority and say Rupp could beat Jager if applied. Look at Kemboi and the other Africans in this event - their form is god awful and yet they win. I think the event just hasn't been pushed to its limits anywhere near the standard track distances, and right now a stronger 3k runner almost always wins. If Rupp is faster - and I think when trained for it he still is - he wins after some practice and experience. No knock to Jager at all. Rupp is just a faster runner.
No. Probably couldn't beat him in a flat 5k either.

My thoughts as well
Remember though, Jager found success immediately in the steeple. it wasn't "something that just takes an amount of time spent training to perfect" like you write. It was apparent he'd break the American record after his first 1-2 steeple races ever, his first race at Mt Sac being 3 seconds off Oly A standard. If you septn 60 seconds on wikipedia you wouldn't come off as knowing absoltuely nothing, thereby destroyign any chance at a valid arguementdoesn't hurt that Pascal Dobert is his coach eitherRupp was a soccer player, which means he's athletic, but he's more of a rhythm runner these daysi'm guessing he could be better than Jager, but at the cost of his other events.Rupp could be a sub 3:30 1500m runner too, FYI. he ran a 3:50 indoors in winter

100% no chance ever. Jager is such a natural steepler, he is a once every 50 years type of steeplechase talent.
