At nearly 64 years old, I am a lifetime runner. I've weathered gravity
storm of slowing down, now my genetics getting noisy.
Like most of you, I "exercise" regularly, am aware of eating healthy more often than not, maybe have a little more alcohol than I should but prefer that to Xanax. Will be retiring next year most likely so ending a considerably stressful job (like most of us have).
I've kept my cholestrol in acceptable levels, but my BP has been dangerously high at times. Went on a med for it yesterday. I am going to work on getting off it as soon as I can but not sure how much aging and my genetics will fight me on it.
So...how are you older runners coping with such things? Are you able to control things through diet and exercise or is it necessary to take the pills to avoid The Big One or a stroke? If you retired did that make a difference in lowering stress and BP? Do you eat steel-cut oats 3x a day? I realize the wisdom of my elders so please chime in.
