Cool indeed; thanks for posting this. They said De Castella ran the last mile of Rotterdam in 4:31.
I have not seen that.
Very cool.
Thanks for posting!!
A pleasure to watch. Thanks so much!
Any other great vintage clips appreciated as well.
Great video for all of us who grew up in the 80's looked at these guys as heroes!
Thanks!
See the Salazar hissy fit after the finish as he furiously shrugs off the hands holding his blanket. lol
That year was the beginning of the end of Salazar as a top runner. Or maybe it WAS the end, as he never really regained the level he had previously reached.
I love Salazar's mentality. We need more of him in the sport.

It's OK to be Grey.
Does anyone recognize the really small guy running in the front pack in the opening CC race? He is really working it.
Great link! Thanks for that. Cracking up at Salazar wearing full long sleeve and tights under his uniform at world xc with most everyone else in singlets and shirts.

As I recall his last 400 m in that race was a 62!

Antonio Prieto of Spain. The race is '83 WCC.

I remember somehow renting this as a 16mm movie right after it came out. So so inspiring!
Wish there was a better quality copy to watch
Wonderful documentary. I have a very similar doc on VHS tape titled Alberto Salazar & Bill Rodgers: Sports Champions produced by an outfit called Goodtimes Home Video. Much like the Alberto/Deek documentary, it profiles both Alberto and Bill with current (for 1983) and archive video. In the last part of the film, they travel together to Greece to run some of the original course from Marathon to Athens. As bizarre as it sounds, it is every bit as interesting as the Alberto/Deek film. Wish I could find it on YouTube or get a DVD copy.
Hilarious how the doc features Alberto and Deek, but Lopes is everywhere like the shark from Jaws.
Look who is "holding the watch" for Alberto at 29:30!
Alberto was just as likeable then as now, heheh.
Who?
