How skinny does running really make you?

Running a lot with intensity will make you very lean, even unhealthily so. Jogging slow will help your cardiovascular system a little, but won't really help you stay lean.

I have a question about your comment on intensity. If I wanted to concentrate on losing fat and nothing else, what intensity are we talking about? Obviously sprinting is involved, but what's the lower level of intensity that's still beneficial for fat loss? 400m repeats?

When I was putting in 10-15 hours a week I got down to 135 at 6-2

I have found that not running for a few days will cause a quick weight gain of a few pounds. I'm not sure if it's water weight, restocked glycogen or something else but it's only a few immediate pounds that goes right back away when I start running again. Unless you start lifting weights or eating much more you might not gain much more and it's probably very temporary. Don't sweat it.

Running 30 mpw not at 148 lbs., 6'1"

High school - I raced at 165 lbs. - baby fat!

College, raced at 155, lean and mean. 60 mpw + miler intervals.

Later, I quit beer and settled in around 150.

People feel free to comment on my health "you are too skinny". My usual reply, "your lips are moving, but you're not saying anything".

I think you should be more concerned about grammar than body weight.

I was 135, 6'0" in high school. I ate like a glutton. I have tiny bones - my ankles and wrists are very small. If OP is anything like me he's perfectly fine.

I don't have any training in nutrition, but have been running and been around runners for decades. You can get unhealthily skinny with 70+ MPW with intensity. Look at Rupp, Look at Ryan Hall before he stopped. You see them in person and it is shocking how emaciated they are. It damages the immune system. There is a very high preponderance of thyroid issues, asthma, low testosterone, and so on in hard-core long-distance runners.

We need to face the fact that pushing our bodies to the edge over and over is not healthy. A balanced exercise program and eating controlled amounts of real food (forget the 'macro' garbage) is what keeps you healthy. Unfortunately, running and chasing times is addictive, like any form of exercise or other life-avoidance technique, like obsessive internet use.

Get up to 130-135 and you'll be good. I was 6'0 148lbs my senior year. My freshman year I was 5'8 128lbs. You need to eat a lot as well as rest often.

I'm 17 years old, 6'1 and 140 pounds. If you are not having fainting spells or anything like that you are eating fine. Could just be you have good metabolism. Don't sweat it

They don't really get those medical problems that's for the drugs and are doing a lot more than 100 mpw

This is the age where you reach peak bone density so I would be most concerned with getting enough calcium through food (not supplements) because your future running will depend on how well your bones formed today.
