Here's some backstory:
The weight coach is ultimately there for football, basketball, baseball & volleyball. Personally he was a football player and thrower but has the philosophy if you're not elite you're not worth his time. Dude literally told me XC kids were too weak to be in the weight room (maybe right but it's his job to get them stronger) and he didn't want them in there.
Next year he starts classes during the day and needs students. Promises to work with me. I voice my concern about what they'll do on meet days and the weeks of championship meets. He says they can do stretching, ice, etc. and a study hall.
The issue:
Kids are complaining that's not the case and he's working them out and they're legs are "dead" and sore. We have a week until league so I went to the guy in person and got the sales pitch about how the kids weren't truthful. I asked again for my runners to not lift as we are in our championship season. I wrote an email, copied the AD and laid out what I need as a coach for my athletes.
Today they had another difficult session in the weight room and struggled at practice. I was pissed (of course HS kids don't tell me until after our workout about what they did this morning) so I went to talk to him again but he went home early.
The guy is in with the AD. Not sure how I approach it. Today I told the kids I want them doing nothing for these last 2 weeks of the season. We don't need to be deadlifting days before the championship meets. They say he threatens their grade.
Thoughts? Do I lay into they guy? It's a bit political and not sure what to do.
The guy tells track kids to not do it and just workout. He's a cancer for my program but the main sports love him.
