Hi I heard that Nike is drastically changing the Elite 8 and I wanted to know if there are any shoes that can serve as an adequate replacement as an uptempo trainer.

Peg 33. They put the zoom in the forefoot now. You'll love it...
The ZE8 is cut wider, feels firmer all around with a non biased heel(no slant) Peg 33 does have zoom but still feels mush which if your not neutral only exacerbates poor running form.
I'd check out the Ghost 9, Asics Dynaflyte. These are both firmer than Peg, Ghost is labeled 12mm drop but definitely doesn't feel like it
Brooks Launch

Ghost is a horrible substitute for the zoom elite. Not even the same type of shoe. Brooks Launch or Saucony Breakthru could be good options.
I'll second the recommendation for the Pegasus 33. I like the very neutral ride of the Elite 8, however, after a couple of months, coming from the Vomero 10, it's just too firm and unforgiving. In a different thread, I wrote about the lateral heel bias (bevel) of the Pegasus 33. However, that was after a short run. I gave it another chance and find it's quite neutral with plenty of lateral support for over-supination. The cushioning is softer than the Elite 8, but, relatively firm and very responsive. The zoom air in the forefoot a bit awkward at first. It's not uncomfortable--just noticeable. The fit is probably the best I've ever experienced. It's performance snug and comfortable for long miles at the same time. It's a total winner for me, replacing the Vomero 10 and Elite 8. I'd say it's a perfect blend of the two.
adidas Boston Boost. Top performance trainer on the market in my opinion.
As an alternative, take a look at the Mizuno Sayonara.
