There are a few ways to get on the radar of sponsors offering liveable sponsorships. Top five at Western States. Win a golden ticket race with a CR. Top five at TNF SF. Top 5 American at UTMB. It's a catch 22 though because in order to train at that level you almost have to have a sponsor. It's tough to come out of nowhere and hang with/beat guys like Sage, Walmsley, or Krar. A lot of guys on the cusp have been living out of their trucks for years trying to get to that next level where the money is. Dakota Jones comes to mind. Low overhead is the key to getting in the miles needed to break through. And then a whole lot of luck.
Or just be a good looking girl with 5:30 50k times. I know of several.
