I went to a district meet today. They run a mile in the woods. I hadn't been back there in a few years but I did a couple miles before the first race. The trail is at least twice as wide now, 3 or 4 sections have a bridge over them because they were muddy, and every root or rock sticking up a little is covered with white paint. The trail is so hardpacked, it is even faster than the manicured grass the rest of the course is on.
People want to run fast times. As weird as that sounds since it's xc and not track.
