Prs -
400 split - 49.xx (ran about 6 times in my career off 20 - 50 miles in season)
800m - 1:53 (54 split last 400m run off 20 - 50 miles in season)
1200m - 3:02 (1:57 last 800m off 20 - 50 miles in season)
1500m - 3:55 (ran 3 times either winning or in contention for win. First yr I ran I ran between 20 - 40 miles that season. The last time I went out in 2:00 and died but was first by 10 secs and maxed at 50 miles that season.
3k - 8:50 indoors (had 4 weeks between 50 and 65 the rest of season was 20- 50).
5k - 15:35 roads over summer (went out in 4:34 and was my first summer trying high mileage. Had 6 weeks of 40 - 65 on 6 days...topped at 72 in 6 days that season.
8k xc - 25:30 (same season as 5k pr...for the majority of the season I was between 50 and 72 miles off 6 days...till this day my highest mileage season ever)
All above where run in college where I came in as the best runner and left as the best runner at my school. I never ran over 50mpw during track and surprisingly one of my best seasons I was 20-30 mpw most weeks. I only ran 3 xc seasons bc of sickness...my first I only ran 3 weeks over 50 and was mostly 20-50 most weeks...the other 2 I ran higher mileage more consistently with maybe 10 weeks over 60 combined and with my best season having the majority of my weeks in the 40 to mid 50 range with a handful over 60...
I'm getting older and am committed to getting as fast as possible before i hang up the spikes. Based on my prs I realize the 800 and 1500 are the best but i think that may be more representative of my training and not necessarily my best events...after taking a couple of yrs off becoming a fat ass and suffering from severe depression I have been running consistently running for about 2 yrs and am approaching my collegiate prs. When I started I was running more casually and over the last year I've gotten more serious dropped most of the weight I gained and upped my mileage. I have had as many as 3 months of consistent high mileage between 60 and 80 but previous to that I was consistent for a while between 40 and 60 and when I first started comeback was consistent between 10 and 30 mpw.
Based on everything I've studied and listened to over the yrs I believe the main key to improving is consistent higher mileage with a couple workouts a week...what do u guys suggest I should do and is it necessary to focus on 1 event or will a mor generalized plan (High mileage with couple workouts) allow me to improve on my prs...also should I get a coach? I'm kinda hesitant bc I don't want to be held back...
Thanks
