Every time I hear another high profile athlete/celebrity doing this, it makes me cringe.
I am 100% all for free speech and peaceful protest. However, you are not heroic, and you are not brave for choosing to take a knee during the national anthem. That takes about 0.01% energy and zero thought to do.
In a world today of non-stop obsessing over your social media presence and status, this act strikes me as nothing more than an obvious narcissistic attempt to get attention, not unlike those ridiculous and predictable Facebook posts from people saying they are praying for "x" after every national tragedy.
If these people really want to initiate change, they will do things like working with community leaders to help understand the problem at the ground level, and donate money to causes they care about that can really make a difference (Boys and Girls Club, for instance).
Enough with this gahbage.
