Are you in CA or FL? Basically how long a flight is it to get home? Lit easier to move there if you are on the west coast already. Are your folks in decent health? Basically if you are in a situation where minimal travel back to kin is ok, go for it. Assume you're aware of rent and mortgage prices in HI.... ain't cheap bc location, location ;)
If you're young and single, go for it. No job today is yours forever. Not many people get a chance to experience this. When you get older and have kids it's harder. Even beyond higher prices for housing, food, and just about everything else, it's a small place and it's difficult and expensive to get anywhere else. But it will take a few years before you start getting the itch to go somewhere else.
If it is on Honolulu, pass it up (it will be cool for about a month, then you will realize you are on a crowded island with only so much to see or do). The other islands are probably more bearable, but will likely get old pretty quick (unless you are big into surfing).
Like being on a big cruise ship. Fun for a while, but constricting eventually. My uncle hated it eventually and moved back to CA.
If upside potential is a part of your life plan go for it.
Hawai'i travel goes both ways. You can go there and you can leave there equally easily.
I lived there for 4 years before I got sick of it. You should try it out. Some people love it and stay forever. I would say about 80% of people who move there leave after a few years, though. The culture is very, very different. The population is about 70-80% Asians (Japanese-Filippino mixture, mostly).
The problem with surfing is there's only so many good waves and way too many people fighting for them. It's not like what you see on TV competitions where the waves are reserved for one or two people.
Even worse is SUPs are taking all the waves at non-prime spots. At the prime spots, you have to be a local to get any waves without a TON of grief.
Because native/locals don't care for outsiders.
The opinion on Honolulu was correct as it is one big 1970's tourist trap.
Unless you are military, pass. Or cut a deal with your employer that it is for a limited time.
