Just another example of his arrogance, just like when he "let Jenkins win".

I don't take him literally.
I think he was saying that he had a lot left in the tank, which I think is probably true.
I was there. I watched him run. He was very comfortable and blew the doors off the competition easily. Add another title.

To paraphrase Winston Churchill, he is an arrogant little man with much to be arrogant about.

Agree with this. "Tempo" can me a lot of different things to a lot of different runners. He likely meant that it was a controlled effort, not all out. The first 5k was over 15:00, which must have felt very comfortable for him. He picked it up from there, but nothing insane.

As if 15 national titles was enough of a scare tactic...
I was thinking the same thing, not that he was all out but tempo the whole time not buying it, is he still the best guy? yep, but 4:35 miles for a tempo come on haha, on Jack Daniels running table that a 27:07 10k vdot.

I could see him being in shape for 13:05ish and 27:10-15ish if he really is in his best shape ever... It seems completely believable to me, dudes just a beast and looked comfortable the whole time

So it is pretty close to tempo effort for a 13:18 guy who you would expect to be able to drop a 27:30 or so 10k if it was raced seriously. The 5k in 15 min is slower than tempo pace. 8:30 for the last 3k sounds fast but it is slower than 10k pace for a 13:18 runner.
This is right about what Chelanga ran on the track when he was in the NCAA and I think Ches is much better than Chelanga. Absolutely conceivable that he's in that kind of fitness.

Not on grass.
You realize he's never ran near sub 28 even? I also noticed on the broadcast for flotrack they said "he's working hard" they also said he was relaxed, I think people are taking relaxed to mean he "wasn't working hard" when you should be working AND looked relaxed at the same time.
And I'll give him best shape of his life definitely, but that could be 28 minutes or even 27:50 and easily be his best shape, but 27:10 come on lol he's never showed that ability at this point, oh and this is xc not track as well....
"Not you again"
I'm not trying to know Cheserek at all or say he's weak lol, he's clearly the best runner as I've said many times if you actually pay attention. Thing is there's a difference between working hard and easy and looking comfortable and smooth and looking dead, was Ches all out? No I don't think that, was he "doing a tempo" the whole time? Nope.
His 10k pr is like 28:20-28 area, best shape of his life could be 28 and that's a 30 second drop almost, he is not in 27:10 shape.
Knock*

You meant RELAXED right? He looked RELAXED and blew the doors of the competition easily.
I would say that was a tempo run for sure keep in mind King Ches ran a 3,50 Mile DMR split 35-40 minutes after winning either the 3 K or the 5 K indoors either last year or the year before i don't remember.
We'll have to agree to disagree. I don't think there's any way that he's just a 28:00 guy.
I used 28 because that'd be a major improvement, but even 27:40 and 27:10 are a HUGE difference, and compared to 27:40(4:27per mile about) 4:33-35 miles are only 6-8 seconds slower than that not exactly "tempo".
Anyway, I expect him to be down near 27:30 for track this year he's gonna be going pro soon I'd assume, and those are times to be expected but I don't think right now just my opinion, end of the day he's the best runner and he'll win no matter what, which is somewhat disappointing because I like seeing competition.
