Road trip next week not sure where to go. Was thinking Milwaukee, somewhere in the Great Lakes region.

8 mile road
Madison.
The Wisconsin Dells, obviously! And I thought the UP was pretty awesome. Hit up The Vierling in Marquette, MI for some craft brews and pizza.
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the UP is pretty spectacular scenery, especially by the standards of the midwest. 200+ foot sandstone cliffs dropping into the clear waters of Lake Superior. A quick google suggests the fall colors are probably past peak, but might still be some around. There are also some decent waterfalls to see. So a good place for some hiking and/or camping. Also a nice dark sky location for seeing the milky way, which is also a rarity pretty much anywhere in the US east of the Mississippi. This coming weekend into next week will be getting back to good viewing, moonrise gets later every day and it'll already be around 1am by this Friday.
Get to the coast ASAP. Don't waste your time in the Midwest.
Pictured Rocks and/or Sleeping Bear Dunes
Depends on what your individual tastes are. I personally don't think Milwaukee is that great. It'seems kind if a dull town in comparison to a place like Chicago.
Madison on the other hand is a great city. If you're into the outdoors and want to see amazing forests, Minocqua is a gem in the north. Same with Hayward. Also along HWY 2 you'll encounter very scenic places especially as you near the Chequamegon-Nicolet forest.
The "You are now leaving Wisconsin" and "You are now leaving Michigan" signs are exciting to see.
For Wisconsin, any state park in the Driftless Area. Devils Lake, Perrot, Wyalusing, or if you have the time head north to Copper Falls State Park.
Michigan, see Sleeping Bear Dunes, Point Betsy, etc. Work way down coast stopping at cool towns, stay in Ludington. Check out the state park and miles of seashore there. Take the Badger carferry across to Manitowoc, WI, check out Steve Avery's old stomping grounds. Head north to Door county, or south to Milwaukee if you're ready for a bigger city.
There are a bunch of Walmarts there. Go walk the aisles
Either you've seen the beauty and don't want any more humans to find it, or you haven't in which case we are glad to have you leave!
Superior, WI. It is close to MN.

This time of year, this is the winner.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Right now thinking of driving strait to the upper peninsula to camp for the night and hike the next day. Then Drive down through Wisconsin
Is there a type of ferry that can take me over to Door County from Wisconsin so I don't have to drive all the way down around Green Bay?
Despite what has been said in this thread, Milwaukee is a cool town. Basically a smaller version of Chicago. Lots of bars, restaurants, cool buildings. It's worth a look. Certainly better than any big city in Michigan. Madison is nicer than Ann Arbor.
Michigan has better nature, IMO. Sleeping Bear dunes, the area around Traverse City, the UP. All beautiful.

It's not that far and worth it to drive up into door county.
We called it Dork county. I found it boring. Too many ugly B&B, Antique store (houses), cheese stores and plenty of pick ups parked on the front lawns.

Solid point. Door County appeals to a more mature audience. Not the place for a 21 year old looking for a good time, that is for sure.
