It comes with about $930,000. He's not going to reject it.
Even as a HUGE Dylan fan, I have to admit that I do not think he should get the NPL. I don't think song lyrics are literature. I think that music/poetry deserve their own Nobel laureates and he should be awarded one of those.
Plus, how does this not go to Knausgaard this year? I mean, who are we kidding?

Dylan's neighbor, Nakamura, flew to stinky Europe to accepted his Nobel Prize

Stinky, huh?
Frankfurt's banks?
The Vatican?
Tuscany's vineyards are stinky?

Aint nobody got time for that
Do you mean the same Knausgaard who wrote "Getting the Nobel Prize for literature is te greatest dishonor of all for a writer." ?
The lyrics on the album "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan"
(Blowin' in the Wind, Masters of War, A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, Don't Think Twice, It's All Right)
through "Blonde on Blonde"
(Visions of Johanna, Just Like a Woman, Absolutely Sweet Marie, Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands)
including the albums:
1-"The Times They Are A-Changin'"
(The title song, With God on Our Side, One Too Many Mornings, Boots of Spanish Leather, When the Ship Comes In, Restless Farewell)
2-"Another Side of Bob Dylan"
(My Back Pages, To Ramona, It Ain't Me Babe)
3-"Bringing It All Back Home"
(She Belongs to Me, Subterranean Homesick Blues [the first rap song!?], Love Minus Zero, MR. TAMBOURINE MAN!, Gates of Eden, It's Alright, Ma [unbelievable lyrics], It's All Over Now, Baby Blue)
4- "Highway 61 Revisited"
(Like a Rolling Stone, Desolation Road, Highway 61 Revisited, Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues)
That's 28 really great songs. I'm sure I've over looked many others.
6 great albums over about 5 years. I don't think the lyrics on his following albums were this creative, but by anybody else's standards were still really good.

Yes, the one who insists on insulting Swedes any chance he gets.
You just did a lot of writing. What are you trying to say?
We all know he wrote great lyrics and great songs. Some of the best ever written. Is it literature? That is the question. I personally feel as though we are long overdue for the Nobel Prize in Music. I am not sure why it doesn't exist. Music is far more important than physics or chemistry.
I would not accept an award from socialist Norwegian intellectuals
Knausgaard knows that as the most prominent literary Scandinavian writer, he can say or do anything and will still inevitably win the prize, but not yet, not so soon, because he is too young.

You've probably royally screwed up their plans with that comment.

This is very true. They want him to accept them first. Now he is still a young buck who thinks they are old and stodgy. Once he is one of them, they will award him the prize and he will accept it.
By the way, when do 5 and 6 (English) come out in paperback? Anyone know? I am sick of waiting but have 1-4 read in paperback and I want to have all of the same editions so I am not buying a random 5 in hardback. That would look terrible on my bookshelf when I show my friends all of the books I have read.
"Oh, you haven't read Knausgaard? How unfortunate. Here, borrow the first book right now. You absolutely must start it tonight. Care for another Chenin Blanc while you read the critical notes? Don't miss the one by Lethem, it's a real gas!"
Nobel Prizes aren't what they used to be.
Agree with you but the lyrics from "Blood on the Tracks" are pretty damn good.
Knausgaard for Nobel prize? Aside from Nobel being a joke/political trophy these days, the guy is far from being a good candidate for the literature prize. If someone didn't read his books, go and check his twitter, it's packed with cheesy and banal aphorisms a la Paul Coelho, who at some point was another fad writer.

Question: For those who argue that song lyrics are not (or cannot be) literature, could you please explain why you believe this is the case?

I think you're safe.
Sheesh, I'm still trying to get over him being described as "Malibu, California's own."
When did he sell out and move to La-La Land?
