College Track/XC Coaches Salaries - post your pay!

Isnt it possible to get any public university coaches contract with salary and bonuses with the freedom of information act?

I've coached previously as D2 head and assistant and was $16,000 and $20,000 for stops.

Now I work less than half the hours and have weekends free. The best thing I ever did was leave coaching. My work life balance is great, I live in a real city and not some college town, and I have time to be in a real relationship.

Head XC-D2

15+ years, $60k & full benefits

It is possible. Just looked up a high profile program - assistant for distances: $53K. I am surprised. HS coaches make more than that but they also have to teach 2-3 classes. HS Athletic Directors definitely make considerably more.

I do not understand the job progression in this field. There is very little to be offered when you get to the rainbow.

Some of these premier D1 programs are in areas with costly real estate and rents. Nothing like putting a coach in a poverty living situation.

The salaries at the big schools haver gone up a lot in the last 5 years.

That being said, we got an email from a coach in PA about 5 years ago asking us if he should quit the sport or take a morally wrong low amount of money to coach. If you are the person who wrote that, please email me again as I want to write an article about it. I meant to do it at the time but never even believe I sent an email back.

The joke often made about coaching is, "You work 35-40 weekends of the year for 35-40k a year."

In my 10 years of coaching, I probably made a total of 200k but it was a great gig for me as I could still do LRC and was young and unmarried.

D2, HC for XC and TF.

As long as you're making enough to be comfortable, it's a great field to be in. You're doing something worthwhile and making a difference in the lives of a lot of young people. I've been in several other lines of work and have never been happier. Then again, I don't have kids. Working 70+ hours per week for a large portion of the year would be rough if you're missing your kids growing up.

4. The interesting part of my salary is that it is split 50/50 between teaching 2-3 classes a semester and coaching. HR would want me to spend equal parts but we all know how the split really looks 90% coaching and 10% teaching

Head XC, assistant Track....7 years at one institution. Started at 26k, worked my way up from 3rd assistant to 1st assistant.

Current:

$37,000 + up to 7.5k in bonuses between athletic and academic performances.
