Is sugar addiction real? If it is, I think I might be a sugar addict. I've always had a sweet tooth, but never kept stuff around the house. I started a new job this year that has food everywhere and I've put on 20 pounds. I'm 6 feet 170. I was 150 when I started this job.
At the new job there are donuts every morning, pastries at every meeting and full candy dishes everywhere. They have weekly lunches with cookies and all sorts of other stupid reasons to have desserts. I started just having small amounts, but now I eat it all the time. I've tried to stop a bunch of times, but I feel like I have no will power.
Please help!!
It is an addiction and I have felt your pain. The more sugar in your system, the more drastic your energy crashes, and therefore the more it craves. It's a vicious cycle.
But don't believe the paleo crowd unless you aim to run slow. Not all carbs are made equal, this is the biggest misconception in diet trends. During training I've cut out sugar to 1 day a week (after long runs). But I eat a stack of dense wholewheat and whole grains, the good carbs. Also a lot of veg and good fats, and dairy.
I find this keeps me full and I never get energy crashes, and also more importantly I mostly stop craving sugar on that 1 day I allow myself to have it. So ironically I don't even eat much sugar at all anymore.
